Kadar Color

Shari Kadar, a native of Hungary, is an artist of many media who has made Santa Rosa her home and studio for the last 16 years. This exhibit will feature the breadth of Kadar’s work which includes paintings, stone carvings, ceramics, painted wooden eggs, and embroidery. Her embroidery is a Hungarian tradition, “irasos", known for elaborate designs consisting of stylized natural forms. Because Kadar hopes that the traditional irasos embroidery will survive and even adapt to modern tastes, she has created her own uniquely Californian patterns such as the quail. Kadar graduated in 1989 from California College of Arts in Oakland with high honors. At CCA, she majored in sculpture but discovered a love of painting. She now paints primarily large oils, semi-abstract plant life or problematic human figures.
