Ride the Bike Boulevard

Take a Ride on the new Bike Boulevard

The Humboldt Street Bicycle Boulevard provides a direct north-south route across Santa Rosa, and is suitable for bicyclists of all ages and levels of experience.

The City of Santa Rosa is committed to promoting and encouraging bicycling as a safe, healthy, economical, environmentally friendly mode of transportation.  The Humboldt Street Bicycle Boulevard improves bicycle safety and circulation by creating a roadway travel environment which bicyclists and motorists alike recognize as a priority route for bicyclists.

The Humboldt Street Bicycle Boulevard is a shared roadway which has been modified to enhance safety, comfort, and convenience for bicycle traffic.  Humboldt serves the bicycling needs of all ages and experience levels while providing an alternative route to busier arterial roads such as Mendocino Avenue.

Rules of the Road

  • The shared-street puts motorists and bicyclists in the same travel lane, one following the other.  If a cyclist is in front of a vehicle, the car has to stay behind-- travel is in a single file line until safe to pass.
  • Bicyclists and motorists have equal privileges.
  • A car may pass a bicycle on the left, when safe to do so.
  • When safe to do so, bicyclists should move right to allow faster traffic to pass.
  • A Bicycle Bouelvard has distinctive signs and roadway markings alerting motorists and cyclists that the roadway is a priority route for bicycles.
  • Traffic calming slows cars down, and drivers are discouraged from using it as a cut through.  Street modifications improve pedestrian safety and encourage bicycling.
