HWY 101 - Carpool Lanes Complete!
Travel on Hwy 101 will be easier, now that the Highway 101 Widen Project is complete. The $111.5 million project adds carpool lanes on a 2.5 mile stretch from Steele Lane to Highway 12 and connects to older carpool lanes in south Santa Rosa. About 2,500 vehicles use the carpool lanes in Santa Rosa each day.
Auxiliary lanes have also been added in some sections of the highway to facilitate merges at onramps and offramps, and reducing traffic congestion in these key spots.
The new carpool lanes increase mobility through Santa Rosa and are a vital component of a multi-modal transportation system. Hwy 101 is an important link to our economic development efforts-- It facilitates the transportation of goods and services in and out of Santa Rosa, but it also facilitates the transportation of people and skills into our community. We are looking forward to the carpool lane network being completed throughout the North Bay region.
Carpool lanes are restricted to vehicles carrying two people and motorcycles from 7:00 to 9:00 AM and 3:00 to 6:30 PM weekdays.
Special Thanks- The City of Santa Rosa would like to acknowledge and thank our residents, merchants and visitors for their patience and flexibility through the duration of this project. Additionally special thanks go to Caltrans, the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, Ghillotti Construction and MCM Construction for their efforts and for completing the project 6 months ahead of schedule.
