Both Conventional and Green homes have four basic categories that rate their performance. In order to become certified as “green” the homes are rated as follows:
-
Energy Efficiency – 11 Points minimum (107 possible)
-
Resource Conservation – 6 points minimum (64 possible)
-
Indoor Air Quality – 5 points minimum (45 possible)
-
Water Efficiency – 3 points minimum (31 possible)
In order to become SR BIG certified the home must achieve the minimum points for each level, as well as, attain an over all rating of 50 points or more by obtaining an additional 25 points in any category. The categories are better explained in New Home Green Points of the Green Building Guidelines.
