COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES
August 23, 2006

Members Present: Don Taylor, Nancy Wang, Bonnie Hasenback, Marvin Mai, Sally Mullen, Lee Dibble, Rita Runyan
 
Minutes: A quorum was not present so minutes were not approved, but will be posted on the website as draft.
 
CHAIR REPORT

Sally reported that Jim Wilkenson thanked the CAB for their support on the Preserve America Initiative. On September 14 there will be a short walking tour of Historic Cherry Street Neighborhood.
 
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Paul Hess, Emergency Coordinator for the City was introduced. He gave a brief presentation about the COPE program and asked the CAB members to help identity potential residents interested in serving as Neighborhood Heroes.
ACTION: CAB members will get names to either Pat or Paul for potential leaders in this effort.
ACTION: Paul will send Pat the list of those folks already signed up so that the CAB members can introduce themselves.
 
REPORTS FROM CAB DISCUSSION WITH COUNCIL MEMBERS

Ideas: Town Hall meeting format around issues. Perhaps meet in each of the quadrants.
Improve Website so that it included major projects and potential neighborhood impacts.

Strengthen the Neighborhood Leaders connection in any way possible.
Make CAB members ex-officio members of other Boards like Planning, BPU, etc., to give neighborhood type perspective.
 ACTION: CAB members will continue to work with the Council appointee to make sure they are working together on issues.
 
STRATEGIC PLAN GOALS

Infrastructure has dissolved so take it off the list.
 
Sally reported the Courthouse Square committee continues to review ideas and has a survey on the website.
 
CRITERIA FOR PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT GRANTS

The group brainstormed potential criteria. The list is attached.
 
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m.

? Encourage matching funds (special consideration) manpower
? Improves cityscape
? Visible to community
? Helps with community safety (something to consider)
? Dispersed geographically
? Consideration about on-going maintenance/upkeep
? No drop in the bucket projects
? Submit complete work

? Advertise – for all at sometime
? Should all the projects happen at the same time

? Maybe interview – top in each area
? Ideas from staff – input

? Median strip water
? Park-related projects
? Shall we work with non-profits

? Update historic inventory
? Maybe bike helmets for kids
