INTRODUCTIONS

The meeting was called to order by Chair Sally Mullen. Each member was asked to introduce themselves and write down three things that they did not feel anyone in the group would know about them. Sally and Donna then read the information and the group guessed who was who.

CITY COUNCIL GOALS

Pat Fruiht distributed the City Council goals, explaining that the Council was interested in knowing which areas, if any, the CAB was interested in working on. She mentioned that there were a couple of areas that seemed like a natural fit for CAB, including Neighborhood Safety, Diversity and Traffic. CAB members who attended the staff strategic plan shared their experiences and their knowledge of the goals. The CAB indicated they wanted to make sure that they were being responsive to the community input about what the major issues were in the community. The CAB decided it wanted to be involved in all of the Council goals. Each member signed up to be the liaison from the CAB to the strategic planning group working on the Council goals. A list of the Goals and the CAB members who volunteered for each area is attached.

Members also discussed that it was important to send out the results of the strategic planning session to everyone who attended the area wide meetings.

ACTION: Staff will send out the summary of the Strategic Plan and Council Goals.

ASSET MAPS

During dinner, CAB members broke out into their area groups to discuss the Asset Maps that had been developed by CAB members for each area. The point was made that once the asset map was finalized by an area, it was important to have a record of it somewhere since CAB members change and the information might be lost.
ACTION: CAB members will provide staff with copies of their asset map for the record.

STUDY CIRCLES

Pat distributed some basic information about the Study Circle model for looking at issues and problems in a community. She explained that the key to the process was involving as many interests at possible and having a structured dialogue to address the issue. She suggested the CAB might be able to use this model in addressing particularly focused areas like traffic, race relations, or neighborhood safety. CAB members participated in a group exercise where they were recruited to be involved in a study circle by two conveners.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE

ACTION: Each meeting will have a time for CAB members to report out on the progress from the City Council strategic plan work group. The CAB will discuss as issues arise in the work groups if there is a role for CAB to play in working with the community.

ACTION: The CAB agreed that the DeMeo Room at Steele Lane would be their permanent meeting space.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
