Storm Water Education
Learning about storm water – where it flows, how it becomes polluted, and how to prevent storm water pollution – is fundamental to understanding our local water resources.
The water environment is a precious resource, and the City of Santa Rosa is in the business of protecting it. The City established a Storm Water Management Plan to protect our waterways and enhance our quality of life. Some of the program goals include raising awareness of storm water quality issues through public education and outreach, providing information and resources to the construction and development industries to promote better storm water management, finding and eliminating illicit discharges, developing a creek stewardship program, and inspecting commercial and industrial businesses. All of these efforts are directed to reducing polluted runoff to our creeks.
As residents, we simply need to work together and change a few habits to benefit our health, our families and our community. Remember, every bit of pollution hurts. Protect our creeks by ensuring that we only allow rain down the drain. The City is pleased to offer a sampling of educational resources for students and teachers in this web page as well as support the Sonoma County Water Agency and Regional Parks districts in their educational efforts. City staff may also be available to offer staff presentations in classrooms as requested.
