 CIMIS Station    Welcome to Turf-Time!

The following irrigation scheduling recommendations are based on data from our weather stations located in Santa Rosa. This information is also available via a recorded phone message at (707) 543-3466.

If your timer has a seasonal adjust/water budget % option, schedule your controller with a warm summer month's (July) schedule, then use the watering index on our home page to adjust your irrigation schedule to match the current weather. To learn how to use the watering index click here

WATERING INFORMATION

WEST SIDE

For the week of June 13th through June 19th water lawns 1 2/10 inches to replace evapotranspiration which is the water used by the grass and lost through evaporation.

To apply 1 2/10 inches, run spray-type sprinklers for a total of 30 minutes for the week. Run impact or rotor sprinklers for a total 80 minutes for the week. These runtimes are based on assumed precipitation rates of 2 inches per hour for spray-type sprinklers and 3/4 inches per hour for impact or rotor sprinklers.

Apply the weekly requirement over 2-3 watering day. To reduce runoff and increase depth of infiltration use repeat start times and allow at least one hour between start times so the water can soak into the soil.

For help determining sprinkler type, precipitation rates or information about using TURF-TIME for your entire garden, call 543-3985, Monday through Thursday and alternating Fridays.

DRIP IRRIGATION

For the week of June 13th through June 19th apply 1 2/10 inches of drip irrigation to replace evapotranspiration which is the water used by the plants and lost through evaporation.

To apply 1 2/10 inches, run drip circuits on on moderate water use plants for 49 minutes. Run drip circuits on low water use plants for a total of 24 minutes.

These runtimes are based on an assumed precipitation rate of 1 inch per hour for drip systems. Apply the weekly requirement over 1 watering day.

The following documents contain evapotranspiration data and rainfall data for our weather stations on the East and West side of Santa Rosa. The document is separated into three sections:

Reference Evapotranspiration (ETo) Data in inches, which displays reference evapotranspiration rates for cool season turf 4 to 6 inches tall, well watered, and densely planted in large pastures.

Rainfall Data in inches, which displays rainfall data collected at the Laguna Wastewater Treatment Plant in Santa Rosa.

ETo in inches Minus Effective Rainfall in inches, which combines the data of the first two tables. Because not all rainfall received is useful to plants, rainfall data has been adjusted to account for this. That is why the title of this table refers to "effective rainfall".
