On August 16th, 2006 The City of Santa Rosa was pleased to announce the completion of the City’s newest photovoltaic system. This 31 kW photovoltaic solar array at Alpha Farm is significantly off-setting the power costs and reducing Green House Gas (GHG) emissions by 18.55 tons annually resulting from the beneficial reuse of recycled water. This water is being re-used to grow silage crops and maintain green space and represents a win-win-win for the City of Santa Rosa and the Subregional Partners.

Solar Array Celebration

Alpha Farm Solar Array

Based on comments from Dell Tredinnick, the array will produce enough energy to run the pumps at Alpha Farm.  Of course that is for an entire year and the pumps only run part of the year, but the energy is sold back to PG&E when we aren’t using it…hip, hip ‘array!

Mayor Blanchard pointed out that we are doing lots of innovative and great things, but hardly anyone knows about it…and that probably includes our own staff. I would encourage you to ask Dell to come and give his PowerPoint presentation at a staff meeting so that everyone can learn about not only the solar energy initiative, but the other exciting things that are happening around Green Building, alternative fuel sources, wind, pasteurization of wastewater, methane, and lots more. I want to thank Miles for his leadership in this area.  He is committed to finding ways to re-use resources and develop new ways of doing business. I think the programs speak for themselves.

Event Press Release

Santa Rosa Shines With Newest Solar Project

The City of Santa Rosa is pleased to announce the completion of the City’s newest 31kW photovoltaic system. On September 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., everyone is invited to join the presentation of the City’s solar power projects at the Laguna Treatment Plant followed by a tour of this new array at Alpha Farm.

Solar energy is an excellent source of clean green energy which can provide power for the electrical needs of the City, while simultaneously reducing Green House Gas Emissions (GHG).  GHG’s are a large contributor to climate change and the City of Santa Rosa is actively pursuing ways to reduce its GHG contributions. Installing solar energy systems has helped Santa Rosa reduce GHG’s by 55 tons per year thus far.

The presentation will exemplify the different solar projects that have been completed and future planned solar projects, as well as other alternative energy source projects that the City is involved in.

Join us on September 19 to celebrate and learn more about the City’s different projects and plans for the future - OUR future…It’s “so bright, you’ll have to wear shades!”
