Saturday, February 7

Howarth Park Opens for the Season: 11:00-5:00 Saturday and Sundays only (weather permitting).  Boathouse opens March 1st!  Boat rentals start at $8 per hour. Big K amusement ride area features a miniature train, carousel, animal barn (summer only) and pony rides. Tickets for the train, carousel and animal barn are $2. Pony rides are $3. Some discounts and family passes available. Come enjoy the 25 acre lake, hiking trails, picnic areas, lighted tennis courts play areas, snack bar located at 630 Summerfield Road in eastern Santa Rosa. Spring hours apply through May 31.

Open Fridays

BAYER FARM in Roseland: Experience Santa Rosa's agricultural past- in the middle of the city! The whole family will delight in the barns, the hay bales and the working garden, the City's new park operated by LandPaths' Urban Farm. Open to the public every Friday from 2-5pm. Actors’ Theater for Children  "If You Gave a Mouse a Cookie", Fridays at 7:30PM; Saturdays at 1:00 & 3:30PM; Sundays 2:30PM only. All performances are in the Dohn Theater at the Steele Lane Community Center, 415 Steele Lane. $5 per ticket- tickets sold at the door only, 1 hour prior to each performance.

 

Friday, March 20

Adult (50+) Day Trip "PRESIDIO PRIDE!" America's Newest National Park and our new San Francisco tour. 8:30AM - 5:30PM, departing from the Finley Community Center. For more information, or to register, click here.

 

Wednesday, March 25

Pet Parade! Rec. & Parks 22st annual beauty showcase for pets! Children 14 and under are invited to participate and enter their animals (no farm animals) in this fun filled event. Awards will be given for the smallest, biggest, funniest, best groomed, best costume, most interesting, best trick and kid/pet look-alike.  Sign up at the lawn in front of the playground on the day of the parade at 12:45PM. Show starts at 1:30PM ($3 per entry). All participants will receive a free train ride and ribbon. 

 

Saturday, March 28

Kids Fishing Derby at Howarth Park! 7:30-10:30AM at Lake Ralphine. The Optimist Club of Santa Rosa sponsors this annual event that kids will remember for a lifetime. The first 200 participants will receive souvenirs and prizes will be awarded for a variety of categories for different age groups. Kids under 15 can register near the boat launch area of Lake Ralphine on the day of the event; children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No boat fishing for contest participants. *Must bring own equipment. ($3 per person)

 

Saturday, March 28

 

Summer Camp Adventure Fair! This event will give families lots of activity ideas for the summer as it features residential camps, day camps, classes & activities, sports & dance, family travel & adventure, music, art & drama, computer & tech camps, and party ideas. 10AM-4PM at the Finley Community Center, Free Admission. 6th Annual National Arts Program Exhibition and Competition Opens! The City of Santa Rosa, in conjunction with the National Arts Program Foundation sponsors this exhibition and competition every year to expand and showcase the creativity which lies in us all. Artwork by Santa Rosa residents, City of Santa Rosa employess and their family members, on display at the Finley and Steele Lane Community Centers  from March 30 - May 29. Friday, April 24

Middle School Teen Dance at Steele Lane Community Center, 7-10PM.  Middle School students (7th & 8th grade only) can purchase tickets two weeks in advance at the Rec. Centers. This will be a night of fun music and dancing with friends. Concessions and raffle prizes all night. The dance is supervised by Rec. & Parks staff including security officers. Student I.D. required to enter dance.

 

Sunday, April 26

 

Fishing in the City for Kids – Howarth Park. Thirty minute “Learn to Fish” clinics will cover all the basics. Loaner rods available. Children should be 5 years and older and must be accompanied by an adult. Fishing licenses are required for ages 16 years and older. Licenses are not required to assist your child. Sign up near the boat launch area of Lake Ralphine on the day of the event. 9AM-11AM, Free event. Please call 543-3282. First Weekend of the Month, May - October

Redwood Empire Live Steamer's Interactive Railroad Museum presents new portable tracks at Youth Community Park! Come ride with us the first weekend of each month May through October from 12PM-4PM, weather permitting. $1 per ride; donations accepted.

SPRING CLEAN 2009 Join us for Spring Clean 2009 and make a difference in our beautiful County. One day a year, over 2,600 people gather together to repair, spruce up or paint buildings, parks and homes. Meet at Finley Community Park at 8 a.m. The day will also include a Safety & Preparedness Fair and Volunteer Festival from noon to 3 p.m. We encourage and welcome groups and individuals to participate. Vintage Rose Tour or Cemetery Flora Tour- FREE!Discover a treasure trove of vintage roses and historic and native plants growing in the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery, many were planted a century ago in memory of a departed loved one. ANNUAL HEALTH & WELLNESS FAIR After enjoying a stack of hearty pancakes (our Annual Member Appreciation Breakfast starts at 9AM or 10AM), tour the rest of the Bennett Valley Senior Center and visit the 30+ groups such as Council on Aging, Mobility Masters, etc. who will be displaying their information.
