Carrying trash bagsPeople to People, a student ambassador organization from Santa Rosa, comprised of high school age students from Willets to Novato, Sebastopol to Sonoma, held their community service project on Saturday, April 17th.

Approximately 35 youth spent 3 hours around the ballfield completing various projects.  This included painting backstops and benches, weeding and raking around fencelines, warning paths, walkways and dugouts, cleaning around bleachers, and painting over graffiti.  This has become an annual visit from People to People contributing time and much needed assistance in Howarth Park.

These thirty five students from the Santa Rosa area will be traveling this summer to England, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland.  Community service is part of their commitment, both to their own city and to one of the cities they will travel to.  This summer, they will also do a community service project in Germany.

Moving Trash CansThe People to People movement dates back more than half a century to its founding by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. Eisenhower was acting on his firm belief that direct interaction between ordinary citizens around the world can promote cultural understanding and world peace. That proud legacy of hope lives on in People to People Ambassador Programs on seven continents.

Student groups are sent out to interact as Student Ambassadors promoting "peace through understanding."  Community service is a requirement and for the past few years we've enjoyed cleaning parts of Howarth Park.
