T'ai Chi Ch'uan for Seniors
T'ai Chi Ch' uan is an ancient Chinese method of physical and spiritual cultivation and self defense. This slow movement and low impact practice is a gentle enjoyable way for anyone to promote both physical and mental health. As with many forms of exercise, benefits can include improving balance and coordination, improving cardiovascular fitness and blood pressure, and assisting in chronic pain. So join our next Tai Chi class in your comfortable, loose- fitting clothes and see what it will do for you.
Awareness through Movement: Feldenkrais Method
Discover how our central nervous system integrates sensation, feeling and thought with movement! These gentle yet profound movement sequences promote perceptual awareness and enhance overall performance and well- being, and can reduce chronic pain, improve breathing and coordination, and encourage a youthful vitality. Experience the improvements that come when you learn to reduce unnecessary muscular effort and release old habit patterns. Wear warm loose fitting clothing and bring a towel for extra comfort.
Yoga for Every Body
This class adapts practice to suit each person's condition, experience and needs. It incorporates gentle movements, postures, and relaxation techniques to increase strength and flexibility, improve posture, and provide a sense of vitality, well being and deep tanquility.
AARP Driver Safety Program (Age 55+)
Defensive Driving classes are available to instruct seniors in safe driving techniques to compensate for the aging process for drivers age 55 and older. There is the initial 8- hour class and there are also 4 1/2 hour refresher class (available ONLY to those who have PREVIOUSLY taken the 8 hr class in the last 4 years). By law, Auto Insurance discounts are available upon completion of class (some insurance companies allow age 50 for the discount). Class must be repeated every 3 years. Due to the popularity of these classes, if you sign up and are not able to attend, please let us know. Please note, AARP members must bring their membership card to class for proof of lower enrollment fee.
Brain Gain (Age 16+)
Increase your memory and build your mind skills... it's amazing! Sixty and seventy five year old grandmothers and fourth grade grandchildren reported uplifted moods and increased reading skills in one short play session. Build the brain with movement games. Forget the hard stuff; we're here to have fun! Designed for all ages to help improve concentration, ability to focus, increase memory and improve math skills... Sound possible? All you have to do is play games. Some brainpower games use colored and filled bags, and raquet balls, which are available for purchase in class for about $15.00. These easy games will show astonishing benefits!
Bones for Life (Age 16+)
Personally regenerate your bones with easy, enjoyable movement that can increase bone density, reduce the risk of osteoporosis, and make you feel more vital and alive! These dynamic, harmonious exercises work with the principals of pressure and weight bearing to produce stronger and healthier bones. Learn in this fun, relaxing process to increase your flexability and stability, while improving your posture. If you are young, this is an investment in your future. If you are mature, this is a must!
Computer Classes for Seniors
We offer Beginning Computer Classes over a three-week period. The 90-minute sessions focus on learning mouse skills, windows manipulations and basic word processing techniques. Finish the Beginning Class and ready to move on to the next level, try the Intermediate Class to learn more word processing skills, Windows Explorer and file maintenance and computer maintenance.
Our E-mail/Internet Computer Basics gives adults the fundamentals to access the Internet and learn to use email. *You must be proficient in mouse techniques and windows manipulations. Registration priority given to those who have successfully completed the "Beginning Computer Class". Looking to hone your internet and email skills, sign-up for our Advanced Email/Internet Class. NOTE: These classes are for PCs only - no MACs.
