TONY ARMLIN: ABSTRACT FOOD PAINTINGS

March 15 – May 5, 2016

Reception: Wednesday, March 16, 4-6pm

When he worked with adults with developmental disabilities over a decade ago, Tony Armlin devised techniques to help them create abstract paintings using food ingredients. Adding instant pudding and flour, or salt and flour, or just plain sugar, to tempera paint provided interesting textures and odors for each painting experience.  He has also taught these techniques to seniors who create amazing abstract paintings without any previous experience. Armlin invites you to come and see over thirty of his Abstract Food Paintings and many senior student paintings. Their creative works add new meaning to the phrase "don't play with your food."

VANESSA HADADY: COASTAL WEST

May 10 – June 23, 2016

Reception: Wednesday, May 11, 4-6pm

Colorful en plein air paintings by Vanessa Hadady celebrate coastal waters from far inland California delta waters, to Oregon Pacific reef islands topped with conifers. This show will span the last 5 of over 40 years of artistic inquiry by the artist. Painted full-size and on-site, before scenic byways or state and national parks, the works endeavor to raise environmental awareness concerning precious natural resources. Archived in the Smithsonian Institution, this classically trained painter, contemporary filmmaker, art instructor, and author of several art books (pictorial and educational), works through a range of representational styles including impressionism, minimalism, and realism.
