Gang Prevention Awareness Week
August 3 - 10, 2013

Join us at a series of fun and safe events showcasing the community’s efforts to reduce gang activity. At each of these events, staff will be on hand to explain how you can help support Santa Rosa’s gang prevention and intervention efforts. All events are FREE of charge. A $10 fee is required to register for the Santa Rosa Police Department Gang Training on August 8, 2013. See below for more details!

Please join us … it takes a community to protect our youth from gang activity.

August 3, 2013

Family Night & Movie in the Park "Carnival"
(Hotel Transylvania)

Jacobs Park - 850 West Ninth Street, Santa Rosa

Bring the family and come out and enjoy carnival games, three legged race, face painting and stay around to enjoy our outdoor movie Hotel Transylvania.

5th Annual José Tamayo Boxing
Exhibition with The Salvation Army’s
Double Punches Boxing Club

Downtown Courthouse Square 

Watch youth compete in friendly, but spirited boxing match-ups all afternoon. Our main event will feature Toni "the Tornado" Abraham from Social Advocates for Youth and Vanessa "the Hurricane" Fuchs from Sonoma County Probation. This is our first female main event and they are Ready To Rumble! These are matches you don't want to miss!

Finley Community Center-2060 W. College Avenue, Santa Rosa CA, 95401

The Public Safety Realignment Act (AB 109 & AB 117)
Santa Rosa Police Chief Tom Schwedhelm, Sonoma County Sheriff Steve Freitas, and Sonoma County Chief Probation Officer Bob Ochs will have a panel discussion about the current status of realignment in our community.

-What is realignment?
-How many offenders will be released?
-How do we re-integrate these offenders back into our community?

Re-Entry programs in Sonoma County
Conservation Corps North Bay, Boys and Girls Club of Central Sonoma County, and Social Advocates for Youth will be discussing the various services and programs available to our youth.

Break-Out Groups: Choose 3 of the 4 topics to learn about and how you can make a difference.

-Take Back your Community
-Gang Prevention Services

Youth Panel: Hear about the experiences these youths have endured and what programs and services they have benefited from or would want for themselves or other youth.

Martin Luther King Park - 1336 Temple Ave, Santa Rosa

Featuring free demonstrations from UJAM, martial arts and Zumba, games and prizes, sports activities, cultural and contemporary  dance performances, community hot shot basketball contest and police department demos and displays, health and resource fair, food, and a screening of the movie Hotel Transylvania on the lawn after dark!
