LUther Burbank with a shovel

Do you love Gardens, History, Antiques, Old Houses, Nature, Learning, and Interesting People?

WE HAVE A VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU!

We invite you to join the Luther Burbank Home & Gardens Volunteer Association. Become a volunteer and lead tours as a docent, children's tour guide, or a garden interpreter. Staff our gift shop, or offer TLC to the gardens. You'll meet and work with interesting volunteers and thousands of visitors who visit us from all over the world. Bilingual volunteers are welcome!

Docents: Our Docents take the visitors on 40-minute tours of the Luther Burbank Home, Greenhouse, and portions of the surrounding gardens. The tour season is April through October, Tuesday to Sunday. Each Docent serves three half-day shifts each month of the season. (Interested Docents can take additional training to become Children's Tour Guides.)

Gift Shop Volunteers: These volunteers staff the gift shop, located in the Luther Burbank Carriage House. The gift shop offers many Burbank related items, including artwork, apparel, cards, and various accessories. The gift shop is open from April through October, Tuesday to Sunday. Each volunteer serves three half-day shifts each month during this period.

Gardeners: Gardeners work "hands-on" in the Luther Burbank gardens, under the direction of the Garden Curator. Gardeners work throughout the year on a variety of tasks and projects. Shifts are available on both weekend and week-day mornings. Each gardener is expected to work at least two three-hour shifts per month during the year. (Many of the gardeners also become Garden Interpreters).

Children's Tour Guides: These Docents take groups of children through the garden, Home and Greenhouse. Tour season is year-round for classrooms by advance reservation. Most tours occur during the school year. Minimum commitment is in addition to basic volunteer commitment.

All volunteers complete a training program designed to familiarize them with the life and work of Luther Burbank and the Home & Gardens site and facilities, as well as their specific duties. A $35.00 training fee is charged at time of interview to cover costs of materials provided. For more information please contact the LBH&G office at (707) 524-5445 or email burbankhome@lutherburbank.org.
