Tours & Events at Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery

Visitors are welcome to take a Self-Guided Tour to navigate through the rich history of the cemetery. Printed Self-Guided Tour brochures are available at the kiosks near the entrances.

Saturday, April 23 - History Walking Tours
Experience the history and learn the stories of the people of Sonoma County and California during an 80 minute docent-led walk through this pioneer cemetery. Note that there are uneven surfaces and slopes. Meet at the Franklin Gate.

Saturday, April 30 - Eco-Friendly Garden Tour of Sonoma County
Take a tour of public and private eco-friendly gardens hosted by The Sonoma County Water Agency in cooperation with the Milo Baker Chapter of the California Native Plant Society. The tour includes a stop at the Rural Cemetery's Memorial and Habitat Garden. More information on the tour will be available in March at www.scwa.ca.gov

Friday, May 13 - Darkside Tours
It’s Friday the 13th! Take a walk on the dark side. All new graveside reenactments will bring you the stories behind the murders, suicides and other horrific tragedies that took place in early Santa Rosa. Not suitable for children under 10. Tours are led by lamplight over uneven terrain, so wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a flashlight. Tours meet at the Franklin Gate. Pre-registration is required. Monday, May 30 - Memorial Day Ceremony
Honor the day with special activities, guests and refreshments. Free admission. 
12:00pm at the Franklin Gate.

Saturday, June 11 - Stones and Images Tour
Have you ever wondered about the origins and meanings of all the different shaped stones, carvings and symbols in older cemeteries? Join a docent-led tour and by amazed at the variety and history. Meet at the Franklin Gate.

See and hear portrayals of the lives and times of the women who helped shape Santa Rosa and Sonoma County. Tours are approximately one hour long. Meet at the McDonald Avenue entrance.

Thursday, September 15 - Lamplight Tour Premier
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Lamplight Tours, be first to see all the new vignettes in small tour  groups. 20th Annual Lamplight Tours of the Rural Cemetery
Walk at night through Santa Rosa’s oldest cemetery to see and hear all new dramatic portrayals of some of our town’s early settlers. Lights, costumes and stage settings create a magical time as characters from the past depict a scene from their lives in the history of Santa Rosa, California and the United States. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a flashlight. (Uneven surfaces and slopes). Tours last approximately one hour and leave from the McDonald Gate every 20 minutes from 7:30pm to 9:50pm.
