Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided tour using the Historical Trail Self-Guided Tour map and brochure to navigate through the rich history of the cemetery.

Saturday, May 3 - History Walking Tours
Experience the history and stories of the pioneers of Sonoma County and California during an 80 minute docent-led walk. Hear of those who crossed the country by covered wagon, veterans of the War of 1812 and the Civil War, the great earthquake that destroyed Santa Rosa and much more. Meet at Franklin Gate.

Monday, May 26 - Memorial Day Ceremony
Join us for an Old Fashioned Decoration Day Commemoration. Enjoy refreshments and the flag-bedecked cemetery, then take a docent-led tour of the graves of the veterans of the War of 1812 through WWII. 1:00pm at Franklin Gate.

Friday, June 13 - Darkside Tours
The Darkside Tours return! Take a walk on the Dark Side and learn stories behind the murders, suicides, and other horrific events that took place in early Santa Rosa. Tours meet at Franklin Gate and start every half hour from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Pre-registration required. Book early – tours sell out!

Saturday, June 21 - Women’s History Tour
Come see and hear from women who helped shaped Santa Rosa and Sonoma County. Let them tell you in their own words about living in Santa Rosa in the past. Tours meet at the Franklin Gate. 9:45am, 10:15am, 10:45am

Saturday, July 19 - Stones and Images Tour
Join a docent-led tour and discover the origins and meanings of carvings, symbols and stones. Why are headstones of different materials and shapes, why are there so many carved flowers, hands, animals and plants? Come find out during this easy 1-hour walk. Meet at Franklin Gate.

Friday & Saturday, September 19 & 20 - Lamplight Tours of the Rural Cemetery
Walk at night through Santa Rosa’s oldest cemetery to see and hear all new dramatic portrayals of some of our town’s early settlers. Lights, costumes and stage settings create a magical time as characters from the past depict a scene from their lives in the history of Santa Rosa, California and the United States. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a flashlight. (Uneven surfaces and slopes). Period costumes (1850 to 1950) encouraged. Tours last approximately one hour and leave from the McDonald Gate every 20 minutes from 7:30pm to 9:50pm. Pre-Registration Required. Book early – tours sell out!
