Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks Scholarship Fund
Help us help Santa Rosa youth learn how to swim!
The Scholarship Program is currently suspended while we work on building back up program funds -- the program will resume in May 2015 with some changes; read below for more information.
Our scholarship program helps families in need afford to participate in recreational opportunities, which in the past most often has included swim lessons for children. Funds for this program are contributed through donations from the community and two annual fundraising events put on by Recreation & Parks staff -- the Scholarship Golf Tournament and the St. Patrick's Day 5K.
For the past several years, we have watched the funds in this account deplete quickly as the communities needs for scholarships continue to increase. In an effort to benefit more families and place an emphasis on water-safety and swim lessons -- an important focus of our Department -- beginning in May 2015, the structure of the Scholarship Program will change. For families who qualify, we will be accepting scholarship applications only for swim lessons for children. The scholarship amount granted will be $28 per child (swim lessons cost $48 and scholarship recipients will pay the remaining difference). Three children per family may receive a scholarship.
With the abundance of pools, lakes, rivers, creeks and other waterways that exist in Sonoma County, we feel it vital to ensure that every child growing up in our community knows how to swim. We hope the Scholarship Program helps to eliminate a cost barrier for families in need.
