Speed Tables on the Humboldt Street Bicycle Boulevard

Based on the City Council’s direction in December 2010, staff has finalized the locations for the speed tables on Humboldt Street.  Six speed tables will be installed within the following blocks on Humboldt Street.

·   Lewis Road and Silva Avenue
·   Silva Avenue and Dexter Street
·   Carr Avenue and McConnell Avenue
·   Pacific Avenue and Spencer Avenue
·   Howard Street and Benton Street
·   Benton Street and College Avenue

The locations of the tables were determined, not only from the responses received in October 2010 survey, but also from responses that staff received since the December 2010 Council Meeting.

The work will be completed by city field crews.  Due to the length of the project area, the work will be phased by segments.    For example, the crews would remove the existing components  between Lewis Road and Silva Avenue (circle, signs, delineators) and immediately install the speed tables, (pedestrian signs, cross walk markings) in that segment.  The goal is to proceed in a similar fashion by segment along Humboldt Street until all the work is completed.

Weather permitting, it is estimated the work will take 4 – 6 weeks to complete.  It is anticipated that the project will be finished by late Spring 2011.
