A Proposed Bicycle and Pedestrian
Bridge Across Highway 101
For many years, the City of Santa Rosa has proposed a bicycle and pedestrian bridge across Highway-101 in the Santa Rosa Junior College area. The bridge would be an east-west connector over Highway-101.
During 2008 and 2009, the City hired a consultant to complete project background research and analysis and conduct two public meetings/workshops to evaluate the need and identify possible alignments for the bridge over Highway 101.
Based on the consensus of the community at the two meetings, a final feasibility study was prepared and presented to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board on November 18, 2010 and to the City Council for acceptance on November 30, 2010. Please see the links to the final feasibility study below.
The next step in this multi-year project is to work with Caltrrans to develop a Project Initiation Document (PID) to evaluate the impact the proposed bridge may have on the existing Highway 101 facility. This effort may take one to two years to complete. Once the PID is completed, development of construction plans would ensue.
