ADA Transition Planning Informational Newsletter

Hello interested citizens.  This is the January 2011 issue of the bi-annual newsletter published by the City's ADA Coordinator.  The purpose of the newsletter is to provide an update to the community in the quarter period when there is no public meeting.  ADA Transition Planning meetings will be conducted in April and October.  Questions on any City Program or Facilities accessibility may be directed to the City's ADA Coordinator at any time via the above e-mail or phone numbers.
DeTurk Round Barn Renovation
The DeTurk Round Barn was built in 1891 has been under renovation that is nearing completion and should be open for public use early in 2011.  The facility meets all ADA and California Accessibility standards and features new pathways, restrooms, a catering station, audio/visual technology while preserving the unique construction and historic elements of a round structure. The historic charm of this facility is a great location for events such as weddings, receptions, classes and programs.
The De Turk Round Barn is located at 819 Donahue St, Santa Rosa. 
Church of One Tree
The Recreation Parks & Community Services Department has also just completed extensive renovations to the Church of One Tree, which was originally constructed in 1873. The renovation includes improvements to restrooms, pathways and entrances. The Church of One Tree is a one of a kind structure featured in Robert Ripley’s “Believe it or Not!” column, which was published world wide. The historic charm of this facility also makes it a perfect location for weddings, receptions, and other events. City Hall Sidewalk Improvements
The City's Public Works Department has been busy the past few months making improvements at City Hall to sidewalks, constructing accessible curb cuts and building an accessible pathway between Sonoma Avenue and 1st Street.  Ramps into the City Hall Complex are located at the Sonoma/Santa Rosa Avenue entrance and accessible sidewalks and pathways are on the D Street side of City Hall.  The Facilities Maintenance Team has added directional signs and hand rails at the ramps.
Transit Mall Temporary Relocation
The Transit Department will be starting renovations at the Transit Mall in the Spring of 2011.  The Transit Mall will be temporarily relocated to 1st Street between Santa Rosa Avenue and D Street and next to City Hall during the construction period. 
Emergency Preparedness

Next Public Meeting
The next ADA Transition Planning meeting will be on April 21, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon.  The meeting will be held in the City’s new Utility Administration Building Training Room A located at 35 Stony Point Road.  Topics will include review of training for Police and Fire Department staff to improve communications and services to people who are deaf or hard of hearing and other types of disabilities.
