Street Improvements Redevelopment: Building a Better Community
Street & Utility Improvements

Redevelopment areas may include many neighborhoods with underdeveloped infrastructure, including roads in poor condition, missing sidewalks, lack of modern water and sewer systems, lack of amenities such as parks and other public facilities, and poor vehicular access due to narrow and/or discontinuous roads. Redevelopment provides specials tools to undertake needed improvement projects, which may include:

·    Improved or expanded water and sewer lines
·    New sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and other drainage facilities
·    Improved street lighting and landscaped streets with new trees and benches
·    New bike and pedestrian paths

As public areas are upgraded through redevelopment, homeowners and business owners are more likely to make their own investments to improve their existing homes and businesses.  Over time, this gradual process of building and improving homes, shops, and businesses can help to attract new jobs and more people to previously troubled neighborhoods.

Santa Rosa’s Southwest Redevelopment Area, for instance, has a variety of capital improvement projects that are either completed, in process, or planned, including bus stop improvements, freeway overcrossings, sewer/water upgrades, and bike and pedestrian paths.
