Redevelopment: Building a Better Community
Public/Private Partnerships
Community redevelopment is usually accomplished by forming a partnership of public and private enterprise. Public funds are used to
lay the foundation
and provide the pre-conditions that are necessary to make private investment feasible. Through the redevelopment process, a partnership of public and private efforts can join forces to
bring new life
to deteriorating areas.
The Redevelopment Agency’s goal is to provide the
last remaining piece in the puzzle
of a project that would achieve viability by the private sector with the elimination of an unusual obstacle or hurdle. Such “gap” funding can often make the difference between a project that
stimulates new private investment
in an area and further decline in property values and decay.
There are many examples of successful partnerships in Santa Rosa between the Agency and the private sector that have
achieved economic viability
and stimulated further investment.
The Agency, in partnership with Innkeepers Associates, transformed the contaminated former Grace Brothers Brewery site into the stunning
Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel & Spa
, a 4-star hotel with 155 rooms, spa, restaurant, and 21,000 square foot conference center in the heart of the City. The Agency has recently partnered with the Hugh Futrell Corporation to convert downtown's long-vacant AT&T Building into the vibrant
Museum on the Square
.
