Redevelopment: Building a Better Community Neighborhood Revitalization |
Just as a well-tended seed grows into a strong and deeply rooted tree, redevelopment lays the groundwork for stronger, safer neighborhoods. The very process of redevelopment brings people together around the common goal of improving the neighborhood they all share. The Redevelopment Agency can serve neighborhoods by improving failing public infrastructure such as water and sewer lines, and creating neighborhood parks and road improvements where needed.
While we may most often think of redevelopment in terms of capital improvements to roads and infrastructure, or assistance for cleaning up blighted properties, one of the most popular programs in Santa Rosa's redevelopment project areas is the Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP).
|
The NRP is a multi-department effort including participation from Economic Development & Housing, Police, Fire, Community Development, and Recreation, Parks, & Community Services. The NRP team provides a variety of services including enhanced code enforcement, housing, fire and police attention to troubled areas to reduce crime, and graffiti abatement. Building and fire inspectors work with landlords to ensure decent, safe and sanitary housing.
By encouraging ongoing investment of human and financial capital, redevelopment prevents neglect and creates a positive environment where residents want to live, work, and play. Redevelopment has been shown to reduce crime and, through its many activities, is improving the living conditions and quality of life in our neighborhoods.
