The City is actively seeking public input to shape the development of the North Station Area Specific Plan. The involvement of residents, employees, businesses, property owners, and other stakeholders is an important component of the planning process to ensure that the project fosters a vibrant transit-oriented community.

The City is hosting five public workshops.  The first workshop has been scheduled, as indicated below, please stay tuned for upcoming public workshop dates, times and locations.  Below, please find a brief outline of each workshop:

Workshop 1   June 1, 2011, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the Dohn Room of the Steele Lane Community Center

Community Workshop 1 Summary

The purpose of the first workshop:

  1. Introduce the project to the community;
  2. Introduce concepts of transit-oriented development;
  3. Provide an overview of the specific plan process;
  4. Present the existing conditions and opportunities analysis;
  5. Conduct a visioning exercise to understand citizen and property/business owner sentiment for the area;
  6. Identify the community’s role in the planning process; and
  7. Solicit input on opportunities, issues, and hopes for the area.

The goal of the first workshop is to allow the public an opportunity to comment on the goals and vision for the area, including the criteria by which the land use scenarios will be judged.

Presentation - Please note that slides 23 through 35 of the Workshop 2 Presentation include graphs that are the result of an electronic polling exercise that those who attended the workshop participated in. When viewing these slides, please keep ion mind the following:

  • Electronic polling exercises are not statistically valid and are not treated as such in the analysis of their results;
  • The results of this polling exercises are only a snapshot of opinions in the room at a single point in time, not a comperehensive opinion poll; and
  • Electronic polling results are only one of the many ways in which the project team gathers input for the project.

Community Workshop 2 Summary

The purpose of workshop 2 is to:

  • Share information about the project and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) principles
  • Discuss market feasible densities for future development
  • receive input on development type preferences and appropriate locations

  • Share information about the project and planning efforrts to date
  • Discuss preliminary land use alternatives
  • Solicit input on preferred elements for a refined land use alternative
