City Manager Update

At its July 20 meeting the City Council announced its intention to retain Kathy Millison, currently City Manager of Clovis, California, as the next City Manager of Santa Rosa.  Ms. Millison has been City Manager of Clovis since 1991 and prior to that worked for communities in Oregon and Washington in labor relations, economic development and land use planning. She has also been very active in her profession, including service as president of the City Manager Division of the League of California Cities.  The City Council is scheduled to approve her contract as City Manager at its next meeting on July 27.  She will assume her duties as Santa Rosa’s City Manager in October.

We all look forward to Kathy’s arrival and wish her well in as she joins the City organization.

Give Us Your Best Shot, Santa Rosa camera

The Second Annual photo contest will end on September 1, 2010.  The photo contest was a huge hit last year with amateur photographers.  The City received over 400 photos – all taken within the City limits.

Get all the details and entry forms at www.srcity.org.

So dust off those cameras and give us your best shot!

Congratulations Sheri Emerson

Congratulations to Sheri Emerson of the Utilities - Storm Water & Creeks team who was recently elected ‘President Elect’ of the Western Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS)!  SWS is an international organization of about 3,500 members dedicated to fostering sound wetland science, education, and management. The Western Chapter includes Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawaii, and the Pacific Islands.

Western Chapter members are engaged in research, management, and regulation of the diverse array of wetlands that occur throughout the Western U.S.   This impressive position will augment Sheri’s already extensive wetlands expertise and supplement her continuing professional development.

“Park-A-Month” Project

Lisa Grant with Parks Division Staff and others are working to help engage our community to help maintain our Parks and other places by making it easier to volunteer. Towards this effort, our Department is going to hold its first “Park-A-Month” project at Tanglewood Park (5174 Oak Park Drive) on August 14th from 9:00 am to noon.  This project will include weeding, raking the sand play area, and clearing exotic plants from the creek banks.

Community Services – VolunteerSantaRosa (www.srcity.org/volunteersantarosa) will be purchasing a fully enclosed trailer that can be moved to different locations to help volunteers with tools and supplies.  Please help get the word out. It would be wonderful to have staff and our community working together on this and other future projects. For additional information please contact Lisa Grant (LGrant@srcity.org) or Ed Buonaccorsi (EBuonaccorsi@srcity.org).
