Santa Rosa Housing Element Certified by State

Advance Planning and Public Policy staff learned yesterday that the City's General Plan Housing Element, adopted by the City Council on November 3, 2009, has been certified by the State Department of Housing and Community Development.  With this approval, the Housing Element has been found to be in compliance with state housing law.

This is great news for the City and for local non-profit housing providers, which are generally more successful in competing for scarce funds for affordable housing when their projects are located in a jurisdiction with a certified housing element.

Earth Hour - March 27, 2010

As you know, Earth Hour raises awareness of the effects global warming and shows people that EVERYONE can be a part of the solution to this problem.

Last year, nearly 1 billion people from 4,100 cities in 87 countries around the world turned off the lights. I hope you saw the video of the before and after shots of some of the most famous landmarks in the world going dark - like the Great Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower, and big city skylines like Hong Kong and Las Vegas.

To participate, simply turn out your lights for one hour from 8:30 - 9:30 pm on March 27, 2010 and join millions of people all around the world to show support of finding solutions to this urgent problem. For more information about this global movement, you can visit www.earthhour.org.
