Mayor Ernesto Olivares was elected to the City Council in 2008 and appointed Mayor in December 2010.  Ernesto has nearly 30 years of public service with the City of Santa Rosa as a law enforcement officer and has been active in the community for most of his career.

Before being elected, he served as the manager of the City’s Gang Prevention and Intervention Services providing the administration of the Santa Rosa Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force and the management of Measure O funds dedicated to help reduce gang violence.  Ernesto currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts of America, Wells Fargo Center for the Arts and United Way of the Wine Country. 

Ernesto’s priorities include public safety, gang prevention, and working to find solutions for economic recovery.

Vice Mayor John Sawyer was first elected in November of 2004.  This is his second appointment as Vice Mayor.  He served as Mayor during the last half of 2008 to fulfill the duties of then Mayor Bob Blanchard after his untimely death.

John currently serves as Co-Chair of the Mayor’s Economic Competitiveness Task Force, Executive Committee Member of the County’s Solid Waste Advisory Group and serves as Alternate to both the Sonoma County Transit Authority and Regional Climate Protection Authority. 

Vice Mayor Sawyer's main goal this year is to enhance the City's economic vitality, thereby increasing revenues to support all the important and valuable City services our residents expect and deserve.

Council Member Scott Bartley was elected to the City Council in November, 2010.  Scott is a native of Santa Rosa and practicing Architect.  He has served extensively in various aspects of City government and volunteering in the community over the last in the past 27 years.

His experience in City government includes serving ten years on the Design Review Board and seven years on the Planning Commission.  He is a member of the American Institute of Architects.  In addition, Scott is a John S. Bolles Fellow and past-chair of the Bay Area Regional Forum of the American Institute of Architects California Council.  He is a member of the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa West and past-president of the Humane Society of Sonoma County. 

Scott’s priorities include working to find solutions for economic recovery, the revitalization of our downtown, and creating long-term sustainability for the City’s budget.

Council Member Susan Gorin served as Mayor December 2008-2010.   She was elected to the City Council in November 2006 and re-elected in 2010.  Before being elected she served as a Santa Rosa Planning Commissioner. In addition, she has Chaired or been a member of many other organizations and agencies, including the Santa Rosa School Board, Santa Rosa Board of Public Utilities, and the Santa Rosa Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.

Susan currently serves as the Chair of the Water Advisory Committee to the Sonoma County Water Agency; has been appointed to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board of Directors; and the Association of Bay Area Governments Board of Directors.

Areas of primary focus include planning for our City's future, preservation of our natural resources, expanded public transit and safe bicycle and pedestrian transportation, and citizen participation.

Council Member Jake Ours was elected to the City Council in November, 2010, and selected by his fellow Councilmembers as Vice Mayor from December 2010 to November 2011. Jake has extensive public service experience: he served as a Contracting Officer for the Federal Government, Economic Development Director for the City of San Rafael, and as a member of the Santa Rosa Redevelopment Agency Board of Directors, and Commissioner of the Santa Rosa Housing Authority.

Creating new employment opportunities and improving the economy of Santa Rosa are Jake's number one priorities.

Council Member Marsha Vas Dupre was elected to the City Council in  2008.  Marsha served as Vice Mayor in 2009.  She previously served on the City Council from 1998 to 2002 and on the SRJC Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2008.  She has been a Santa Rosa resident since 1973 and had a twenty-year career with Santa Rosa City Schools as a project manager and guidance counselor.

Her major areas of focus are child care, affordable housing, the environment, and transparency in the governing process.

Council Member Wysocky was elected to the City Council in 2008 and served as Vice Mayor in 2009.  Gary has served as President of the Junior College Neighborhood Association and the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, in addition to being a founding board member of the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition.  He has owned and operated a CPA practice for over 25 years and has taught at Sonoma State University as an adjunct professor.  Gary also coached basketball at Piner High School for six years.  Gary has been a Santa Rosa resident since 1991, and is the father of a teenage daughter, Jessica. 

Gary’s major areas of focus are budget, transportation, climate change, and neighborhood issues.
