On December 4, 2001, the Santa Rosa City Council took the leadership role in the County of Sonoma and voted to become a member of Cities for Climate Protection, a project of the International Council on Local Environment Initiatives (ICLEI). In doing so, Santa Rosa joined over 132 U.S.cities and counties and over 557 worldwide who are reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by committing to five Milestones:

  • Conduct a GHG Emissions Inventory
  • Set a Reduction Target
  • Develop an Action Plan
  • Implement the Action Plan, and
  • Monitor Progress¬†
