HOWARTH PARK POLICIES

Thank you for helping to make Howarth Park
safe and enjoyable for everyone!

For the enjoyment and safety of everyone, Santa Rosa Recreation, Parks, and Community Services expects all participants to treat the people and facilities connected with the
program with respect and abide by all rules and direction from staff.  Department Staff
reserve the right to refuse services to anyone for failure to abide by these standards.

PARK RULES

  • Items left unattended may be removed.  This includes picnic sites and picnic decorations!Groups may not “reserve” a spot with decorations and then leave the premises. Unattended items will be removed.
  • Alcohol is allowed ONLY on weekends or holidays and after 5 PM on weekdays.  Please note:  Glass bottles are NOT allowed in the park.
  • No BBQs near the playground
  • Personal BBQs that use charcoal are NOT allowed
  • Inflatable jumps, tables, or personal BBQs are NOT allowed on grass areas* without a permit.
  • Pick up all garbage, food, decorations, and party remnants and throw them away in an appropriate trash
  • Do NOT damage or pollute park property (this includes placing flyers on cars, trees, or polls in the park).
  • Dogs MUST be on leashes (not exceeding 6 ft) and attended at ALL times
  • Bicycles, cars, and other vehicles must remain on designated paths, roadways or parking spaces.  Remember - pedestrians have the right of way! 
  • Organizations of 25 or more people must notify the Recreation and Parks Department ahead of time about their planned use of the park

The following things are NOT allowed:

  • Glass containers (this includes vases, mugs, and beer/wine bottles)
  • Smoking (of any kind)
  • Cats
  • Firearms
  • Camping, Golf Activities, Swimming, Paintball/Airsoft, or Archery*
  • Horses
  • Motorized Vehicles (this includes radio operated models)
  • Amplified Sound*
  • Conducting any business (money CANNOT change hands) - this includes vendor sales!
  • Putting flyers on cars or posting them in the park without approval from the Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department
  • Depositing household garbage in park dumpsters

LOWER LAWN RULES

In order to preserve the lawn for everyone's enjoyments, the following things are NOT allowed without a permit:

  • Inflatable jump structures
  • Tables and chairs or canopies and tents
  • Driving stakes over 6 inches in length into the group

LAKE RULES

  • No swimming or wading in the lake.
  • No dogs allowed in the lake.
  • Please clean up your fishing line, lures, and hooks so that park visitors (and wildlife) don't get hurt. For more information on fishing, click here
  • Please remember the animals at Howarth Park are wild and can become overly excited when food is present.
  • No fishing off the dock when the boathouse is in operation
  • Personal boats ARE allowed on Lake Ralphine.  Outboard motors and boats over 20 feet in length are NOT permitted on the lake.  Electric motors are allowed.  A Launch permit ($2/day or $10/season) is required if boating during boathouse operation hours.

TENNIS COURT RULES

  • Tennis ONLY please - NO other activities
  • Wear proper footwear to keep the court surfacing from getting damaged
  • Do NOT remove nets
  • Do NOT play soccer or handball on the courts
  • Do NOT mark the courts with chalk
  • Do NOT do exercise workouts or yoga on the courts

CAMP WA-TAM RULES

Camp Wa-Tam and the Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department programs have priority on the use of the Camp Wa-Tam space (located above the train tracks and maintenance shed). 

The following things are NOT allowed without a permit:

  • Camping
  • Archery
  • Bonfires or fires in the fire pits/fire rings
  • Mountain Bike Races, except by permit (Summer Wednesday Night Dirt Crit Races HAVE been issued a permit).  Mountain bikes are welcome to ride the trails, but please be respectful of other trail users.  Campers and pedestrians do have the right of way!
  • NO glass containers or any type or smoking
