Steps to Getting Involved

Step 1:  Identify suitable projects:  What are the needs of your community?  What outcomes do you want to achieve?  What is the most appropriate partnership model?

Step 2:  Find suitable partners:  What issues appeal to which businesses and why?  What networks are available for contacts and introductions?  What networks and volunteering bodies can help?

Step 3:  Prepare the program or event:  Have you got all the information you need for preparing a detailed project plan?  Have you prepared materials to promote your organization and partnership idea?  Have you identified what training, venue, resources and euqipment are involved?

Step 4:  Ensure success:  Are your internal policies and procedures up to date?  Are there any checks required, e.g. backgroud, liability insurance, risk management, consent forms, photo release, permits?  If you partnership involves an activity or event, what needs to happen on the day for the project to be successful?

Step 5:  Share Feedback:  Are there any reporting requirements?  How will you collect feedback from participants, volunteers, your business partner?  How can you thank the participants, volunteers, your buisness partner?  Is there a need for debriefing?

 How do we get involved?

"Most people think of financial donations and corporate volunteering when talking about community business partnerships.  But partnerships can take a variety of forms.  Innovative  thinking and strategic alliances can help your community organization and business find effective ways of working together, especially during times of economic stress."  Community Business Partnerships, Maribynong City Council

Place to Play Partnership

 Working Together

"A community business partnership exists when a business and a community organization identify common goals and agree to work together to achieve these goals by sharing and leveraging their strengths, knowledge and resources to benefit both business and the community."  The Practical Partnering Toolkit prepared by Social Compass for the Prime Minister's Community Business Partnership
